Fırat Neziroğlu: From Tradition to the Future with the Anatolian Textile Network

In YeÅŸil Üzümlü, the local community weaves the meticulously handcrafted Dastar fabric on looms called "Düven," using a variety of decorative techniques. Dastar weaving involves three types of threads: warp, weft, and pattern threads. The fabric is crafted from wool, cotton, linen, and silk. The silk used for Dastar is produced from silkworms raised by the local community, resulting in a unique type known as Bürümcük Dastar. Patterned Dastar fabrics are named based on their distinctive motifs, such as Sucuk Yanışlı, Çomak Yanışlı, Deveboynu Yanışlı, and Semer Yanışlı. Meanwhile, plain Dastar fabrics without patterns are referred to as Yoz Dastar.

One of the most distinctive features of Dastar is the use of natural dyes derived from local plants to color the threads, adding a unique and vibrant touch to the fabric.

In collaboration with Fethiye Municipality, the Likya Women’s Cooperative, and Fırat NeziroÄŸlu, Dastar fabric, which holds a geographical indication status, is being reimagined with respect to both traditional weaving techniques and modern needs. A new Traditional Collection has been developed, combining the patterns of traditional Anatolian garments with Fırat NeziroÄŸlu’s contemporary artistic vision.

As these designs originate from an artist’s hand, the collection was unveiled to art enthusiasts through a fashion show held during the ArtAnkara Art Fair in Ankara. The collection is available at select sales points in the Fethiye region and will be updated twice a year to align with seasonal trends.
